Skype has announced a collaboration with MOL AccessPortal Berhad (MOL) to enable Skype users to exchange their MOLePoints for Skype credits, making it easier and more convenient for users to buy Skype products and begin making inexpensive calls to family and friends around the world.

Previously Skype users could only pay for their credits at Skype.com using international credit cards. Under the collaboration, users can now redeem Skype credits using e-vouchers obtained with their MOLePoints at www.mol.com. MOLePoints are available at more than 15,000 payment channels nationwide including 7-Eleven stores, Popular Bookstores, CyberCafes, epay terminals and Internet Banking.

Now it has become simpler for Skype users in Malaysia to access Skype’s paid-for features, including using Skype Credit to make low cost calls to mobiles and landlines worldwide, allowing them to keep in touch with loved ones from as low as € 0.017 (approximately RM0.07) per minute to the USA, United Kingdom and Australia for example.

”We are excited to collaborate with MOL to bring greater convenience to our users, enabling them to more easily reach their loved ones practically anywhere in the world” said Dan Neary, Asia Pacific Vice President and General Manager for Skype. “Skype is always looking at ways to enhance the user experience including expanding payment methods that meet our users’ needs.”

Ganesh Kumar Bangah, President and Chief Executive Officer of MOL said, “We are very pleased to work with Skype to offer greater value to Malaysian consumers, enabling them to keep in touch with family and friends more easily than ever. Parents with children overseas for example can now conveniently obtain Skype Credits without the hassle and risks of using credit cards. The low cost of making Skype calls is also a cost effective way to maintain ties in the current economic downturn for entrepreneurs and businesses. MOL is constantly striving to create more exciting products and services for our consumers.”
