The new Intel Atom N450 Processor for Netbook

Have you heard about the new Intel Atom chip? The new N450 processor is 60 percent smaller and 20 percent lighter but it is very much disappointed by the slow 1.6Ghz clock speed and its capabilities versus the older Atoms.

Well lets make it straight to the point, the new N450 chipset is no much different from at the older chips, at least from what it could do. The biggest difference here is this, the new N450 integrates a memory controller and graphics core with the processor, features that are designed to boost performance and save power.

Consumers won’t see much difference, you may get a slightly better graphics and save a little bit more power, but is this what current netbook users want?

Intel is selling the Atoms to computer manufacturers with certain limitations, for an example screen size that doesn’t exceed 10.2 inches all these with an intention to create a gap between netbook and notebooks. While Intel is making more money with chipsĀ  that are designed for notebook they don’t make the same amount of money for netbook.

However the gap between notebook and netbook is getting closer and Intel will have no choice but to build more and improve the Atoms for the masses.

At this particular point, you may want to experience other alternative processors such as Via’s Nano or AMD’s Neo.
