Today, Nuffnang will officially launch its Glitterati programme, its latest strategy in hope to attract loyal South-East Asia publishers. The programme offers higher earning to Glitterati club members and are given priorities in other programmes and events by Nuffnang.

To join the Glitterati club, Nuffnang publishers are not allowed to display ads from other Advertising networks that are based in South-East Asia. That includes ads from Advertlets, GradMyAds and Nufflets which all of them are based in Malaysia.

All four start-ups where launched last year where Nuffnang made the lead, followed by Advertlets, GradMyAds and later Nufflets.

According to Nuffnang, the Glitterati club are considered “Exclusive Nuffnangers” where they will be able to earn 20-50% higher than their normal blog income.

Glitterati members will also be able to earn a minimum RM0.25 on CPM ads and will receive payment in 30 days from the end of the previous month when a payment is requested.

The “Non-Loyal” that are also so called “Nuffnangers” will earn lower on CPM ads and will be paid in 60 days from the end of the previous month when a payment is requested.

The “Non-Loyal” Nuffnang publishers will not be able to use other Nuffnang services such as Innit and will not be priorities when an event related to Nuffnang takes place.

To join the programme, publishers must full fill the requirements and wait for the “Nuffnang crawlers” :?: to visit their site which takes place every 48 hours, according to Nuffnang.

The Glitterati Club was announced last week during the domain issues faced by Advertlets that effected more than 15,000 websites and blogs  .

I have heard that Google has plans for publishers in Asia for its Adsense program, what if Google makes the same move as Nuffnang? Could Google dominate further the international market which it currently leads?

Now, lets see how Glitterati will benefit the publishers of Nuffnang and the company itself  .

Hi,

This is Josh Lim here from Advertlets. This is directed all reading this, including bloggers that have registered with Advertlets in our key markets of Malaysia & Singapore.

Firstly, we admit. We made an error in judgment, and we did not intend for this to happen. And we are very sorry that it did, and would like to apologize for everyone affected. Some small mistakes are resolved easily, and affect a few. And some mistakes, however small, can affect millions.

Most of you are probably disappointed, confused or angry at the recent downtime that has happened, that has cut off access to your blogs. Over the past few days, we have been doing everything we can to restore service, as well as answering e-mails, phone calls, smses, media interviews, and support requests.

Its hard to apologize to more than 15,000 members, and this e-mail was hard to type, but undoubtedly necessary. And first, I’ll probably be best to start by answering questions you might have:

What happened?

A complication in the renewal process caused the Advertlets.com domain to expire, and caused issues for bloggers with our ads installed, which made their blogs redirect to a placeholder page. It was not our intent to do so. Advertlets.com blog users were unable to login to their Advertlets accounts and access the website as well.

How many did it affect?

According to our statistics, it affected 30-65% of traffic to our network over the past 2 days. On most days, we experience between 3-4 million ad impressions per day. The viewers of most blogs were affected in some way, depending on the nature of how DNS settings would resolve in different countries and ISPs. Some would resolve faster, some would not, which caused varying experiences for viewers in different places.

What can I do to resolve the problem?

You can follow some troubleshooting steps listed at http://advertlets.blogspot.com, a site temporarily set up to assist in this issue. Or, you can remove your code for the time being, and we will notify you when it has been fully resolved.

Whose fault is it?

Ours. The short answer is that it is our fault. The longer answer is that we tried everything we could as soon as we knew, however, some uncontactable and uncooperative parties made it harder. Nevertheless, the blame lies with us, and we will take full responsibility for it, and to resolve it.

What will happen to my current earnings?

Your current earnings will be retained within the system, and we will continue to serve paid ads for you to continue to earn in future.

If I choose to continue with Advertlets, can I be assured that this will never happen again? And how do you intend to compensate us for the error?

The domain has been renewed, and we will make sure that this can never happen again. We resolve to do better in future, and have more failsafe options available. A financial compensation plan is being worked out, and will be announced on Monday.

Will we be continuing operations?

Yes. Paid ads are beginning to be served through the system again in available locations.

Where is service available as of now? How soon until everything is okay?

We’ve received reports that the DNS has successfully resolved partially for the following ISPs:

- Jaring (Malaysia)
- TMNet (Malaysia)
- Starhub Maxonline (Singapore)
- PT Telkom (Indonesia)

Service is continuing to be restored throughout the rest of Asia and the world and all service should be fully restored in less than 12 hours.

Its heartening that some have been of great assistance to us in this difficult time, providing us with service updates from their area as well as moral support. But to those that were frustrated, we understand your frustration, and it frustrates us even more to have been the source of it. All in all, we are still in awe as to how passionate all of you are. And how many people have chosen to make Advertlets part of their channel of expression. It is our hope that you can continue to do so.

We will be notifying all when service is 100% functional, to assist you with your decision on the continued use of our services. Your impressions are your votes. And if you can forgive us, we will make sure your trust is never again misplaced.

We will be making some personnel changes and new additions to ensure that everything – support, ad loading time, code, and more run smoothly in future. Major upgrades to the system are due in February, in the form of Advertlets 2.0 with new ad formats, referrals, earning graphs, social features, and traffic generation facilities. And of course more contests, advertising revenue and sponsored post opportunities.

We hope that in the next few days we can prove ourselves again to you, nevertheless, our redemption will be in your hands. Once again, we apologize.

Regards,

- -

Some Malaysian sites in the blogsphere have suspected that Advertlet.com was hacked, however a quick check revealed that the domain, www.advertlets.com has expired on 3 January 2008. Further checking revealed that www.advertlets.com was renewed on 3 January 2008 itself but it was officially updated on 4 January 2008. Below is the snapshot of www.advertlets.com during the time of writing this article.

A quick response from Josh Lim, founder of Advertlets, on his blog revealed that the ad network was down due to the DNS changes made. Below are the answers of Josh Lim regarding the current issues.

Is Advertlets.com shutting down?
No. We’ll be back online shortly.

What happened?
A complication regarding the renewal process of the domain for Advertlets.com. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.

Will Advertlets.com be online at the same URL again?
Yes, it will be at the same url, www.advertlets.com

Can you make sure that this won’t happen in future?
Please be assured that this will never happen again, and we will take all steps necessary.

Why is my blog redirecting?
Due to the nature of the error, some if not all blogs are redirecting to a placeholder site. This is not intended, and usual service will resume shortly.

How soon until the error is resolved?
For most, the error should be resolved within an hour from time of posting. Worst case (for international users), 24 hours.

Can I still check out my account details or access Advertlets.com?
Yes, you can use http://apps.advertlets.com (this is the beta login for Advertlets 2.0 and is mostly functional). Subdomains for advertlets.com are still functional, however, the main www.advertlets.com domain is affected.

Or, you can edit your hosts file: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts (no file extension). Open up the file in notepad and put in this line:
202.46.116.100 advertlets.com

(Note that this is only a temporary fix)

Does this affect my current cashouts?
No, payments will be sent as usual.

The ad code was so powerful that it even diverted Google cached page of www.advertlets.com to the domain parking page, view here. Other resolution on top of Josh’s suggestion is to remove the advertlets code on your site temporarily until these issues are resolved.

Lets hope that after this, the Advertlets’s ad network will load faster!!!!

Here are some earlier site that reported this issue:

Google AdSense Program Policies after the jump.

Publishers(You) participating in the AdSense program are required to adhere to the following policies. Please read these policies carefully and refer to this document often. If you fail to comply with these policies, Google may disable ad serving to your site and/or disable your AdSense account. Once your account is disabled, you will not be eligible for further participation in the AdSense program. Meaning you will be ban from Adsense forever!!!

Invalid Clicks and Impressions

DO NOT CLICK YOUR OWN ADS!!!! Clicks on Google ads must result from genuine user interest. Any method that artificially generates clicks or impressions on your Google ads is strictly prohibited. These prohibited methods include but are not limited to repeated manual clicks or impressions, using robots, automated click and impression generating tools, third-party services that generate clicks or impressions such as paid-to-click, paid-to-surf, autosurf, and click-exchange programs, or any deceptive software. Please note that clicking on your own ads for any reason is prohibited. Failure to comply with this policy may lead to your account being disabled.

Encouraging clicks

DO NOT ASK YOUR SITE VISITORS TO CLICK YOUR ADS!!!! In order to ensure a good experience for users and advertisers, publishers may not request that users click the ads on their sites or rely on deceptive implementation methods to obtain clicks.

Publishers participating in the AdSense program:

May not encourage users to click the Google ads by using phrases such as “click the ads,” “support us,” “visit these links,” or other similar language

May not direct user attention to the ads via arrows or other graphical gimmicks

May not place misleading images alongside individual ads

May not place misleading labels above Google ad units – for instance, ads may be labeled “Sponsored Links” but not “Favorite Sites”

Site Content

While Google offers broad access to a variety of content in the search index, publishers in the AdSense program may only place Google ads on sites that adhere to Google’ content guidelines, and ads must not be displayed on any page with content primarily in an unsupported language. View the list of supported languages.

Copyrighted Material

Website publishers may not display Google ads on web pages with content protected by copyright law unless they have the necessary legal rights to display that content. Please see Google’s DMCA policy for more information.

Site and Ad Behavior

Google Ads are not allowed on sites with excessive pop-ups ads!!!! Sites showing Google ads should be easy for users to navigate. AdSense code may not be altered, nor may standard ad behavior be manipulated in any way that is not explicitly permitted by Google.

Sites showing Google ads may not contain pop-ups or pop-unders that interfere with site navigation, change user preferences, or initiate downloads.

Any AdSense code must be pasted directly into webpages without modification. AdSense participants are not allowed to alter any portion of the code or change the behavior, targeting, or delivery of ads. For instance, clicks on Google ads may not result in a new browser window being launched.

A site or third party cannot display our ads, search box, search results, or referral buttons as a result of the actions of any software application such as a toolbar.

No AdSense code may be integrated into a software application.

Webpages containing AdSense code may not be loaded by any software that can trigger pop-ups, redirect users to unwanted websites, modify browser settings, or otherwise interfere with site navigation. It is your responsibility to ensure that no ad network or affiliate uses such methods to direct traffic to pages that contain your AdSense code.

Referral offerings must be made without any obligation or requirement to end users. Publishers may not solicit email addresses from users in conjunction with AdSense referral units.

Publishers using online advertising to drive traffic to pages showing Google ads must comply with the spirit of Google’s Landing Page Quality Guidelines. For instance, if you advertise for sites participating in the AdSense program, the advertising should not be deceptive to users.

Ad Placement

AdSense offers a number of ad formats and advertising products. Publishers are encouraged to experiment with a variety of placements, provided the following policies are respected:

Up to three ad units may be displayed on each page.

A maximum of two Google AdSense for search boxes may be placed on a page.

Up to three link units may also be placed on each page.

Up to three referral units may be displayed on a page, in addition to the ad units, search boxes, and link units specified above.

AdSense for search results pages may show only a single ad link unit in addition to the ads Google serves with the search results. No other ads may be displayed on your search results page.

No Google ad or Google search box may be displayed in a pop-up, pop-under, or in an email.

Elements on a page must not obscure any portion of the ads.

No Google ad may be placed on any non-content-based pages.

No Google ad may be placed on pages published specifically for the purpose of showing ads, whether or not the page content is relevant.

Competitive Ads and Services

In order to prevent user confusion, Google ads or search boxes are not permitted to be published on websites that also contain other ads or services formatted to use the same layout and colors as the Google ads or search boxes on that site. Although you may sell ads directly on your site, it is your responsibility to ensure these ads cannot be confused with Google ads.

I hope that by now you would know how to deal with the Google ad on your site. Remember, breaching these policies can results Google banning you forever from Google Adsense.

Happy making money!!!
