Wikipedia defines Open Source as “Open source is a set of principles and practices that promote access to the production and design process for various goods, products, resources and technical conclusions or advice”

Linfo describes Open Sources as “Open source software is software whose source code is freely available (i.e., without any requirement for payment or any other obstacles) for anyone to inspect and study. ”

The GNU describers Free Software as:

Free software is a matter of the users’ freedom to run, copy, distribute, study, change and improve the software. More precisely, it refers to four kinds of freedom, for the users of the software:

• The freedom to run the program, for any purpose (freedom 0).

• The freedom to study how the program works, and adapt it to your needs (freedom 1). Access to the source code is a precondition for this.

• The freedom to redistribute copies so you can help your neighbor (freedom 2).

• The freedom to improve the program, and release your improvements to the public, so that the whole community benefits (freedom 3). Access to the source code is a precondition for this.

Free and Open Source Society Malaysia define FOSS as “Free and Open Source software, is software that is available under a license gives you the freedom to copy, modify and redistribute.”

I define a software as Open Source when the software can be modified by me without the need to contact the developer(source code), free to use,copy, free to distribute or for any purpose, no intellectual property restrictions, and in terms that the particular software belongs to everyone.
